2006 Moorestown Cross Country Weekly UpdateNovember 5 , 2006 – Issue 10Moorestown Boys Cross Country Weekly Update Recap We ended our formal competition for the season at the NJ State Meet yesterday in a very, very tight race finishing 6th place of all Group 3 schools in the state – a tremendous accomplishment. As expected, it was very close – with second place Hopewell Valley at 181 points, and us in 6th at 205. Kingsway was just ahead of us at 203 points, and West Windsor North at 200. We actually finished closer to North and Hopewell Valley than we did last week at the Sectional meet. At the start of the season, we hoped that we could finish in the Top 10 in the state, and we did. Eagles and I could not be more pleased with the progress we have made as a whole team this season. We will recap the season at the Cross Country Banquet on Nov. 30 – so I will not spoil some of the very interesting stats and accomplishments. It was a strange day at Holmdel yesterday. The heat and humidity caused slow times across the board – so there was not going to be much opportunity for PR’s. The thing that Eagles and I are most proud of is the way we run as a team. Friedman and Mulski were 24th and 25th, Ringwood and Healey were 54th and 56th, and Naylor, Banks and Matteson were 79th, 83rd and 84th. This is a Moorestown type of run – helping each other and running for each other. This gives us a huge advantage over our competition. One of the most interesting stats that bodes well for our style of running, as well as our future, is that our 7th man was faster than every team in the entire state across all groups except for 3 teams – Old Bridge, Don Bosco and CBA. That is right – Matteson’s 18:29 was faster than every other 7th man including such great teams as Jackson, Haddonfield, Ridge – everyone except 3 teams. And in looking to the future, there is no team in the state returning 6 of the top 7. The Week(s) Ahead Fund Raising for the Turkey Trot – We will need everyone’s help over the two weeks to put on a successful Turkey Trot. This year we are adding a fund raising component – asking all of the runners to raise money. We have a goal for each runner to raise $100. This is used for the Trail and for the Uniform program – so it directly benefits us. And all donations are going to be matched by Family Fund Day up to $5,000 – so all donations really count! See Eagles if you need a form. Hand in your donations to Eagles in his classroom after school. Training – Now that the formal season is officially over, we encourage everyone to think about a long term plan for running this winter and spring. While the coaches will not be there during the rest of the month, there will be runners meeting at the picnic table every afternoon for a run. We will be having a meeting on Monday, Dec. 4 for those people that will be continuing to run during the winter, but are not joining the Winter Track team. More on that later… XC Banquet – Thursday Nov. 30 – Be sure not to miss the end of season banquet. Our Banquet committee is organizing a great feast for us with the Girls team. Runners are free, and parents and others will be $12. We will be handing out special season mementos to ALL runners for the season as well as the special honorary awards for Most Valuable Runner, Most Improved Runner and Coach’s Award. End of Year Reviews – Eagles and I will be meeting with each runner individually to review the season and talk about the future the week of Nov. 27 during 12th period. We will send out a schedule later. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with either of us: Lorenzo Eagles - leagles@mtps.com – 662-2343.
