Eagles
Mr. Eagles teaches History at the Moorestown High School.

Mr. Eagles ran high school cross country and track for Middletown South. He is a graduate of Duke University, although he did not play basketball there, much to Coach K's disappointment. Mr. Eagles runs every day with the team, and in the fall of 2006 was in shape to run a sub-18:00 5K before the weather and mud slowed him down at the annual Turkey Trot. He is able to run 10 sub-70 second 400's with a 2 year old on his shoulders, as seen in the picture on the left..

He began coaching distance runners in Moorestown in 2000 at the middle school and moved to the high school in 2004.  He is a firm believer that any athlete can find success and enjoyment in running and enjoys helping all runners reach their individual potential.

When not riding a bus to meets, he spends time with his wife Kelly and two children – Kaitlin and Luke-Bob.

Joe Halin - Assistant Coach Joe and Arthur Lydiard

We were fortunate to have Coach Halin join us in the middle of the 2006 season. Joe is a former State Group 4 Cross Country Champion from Cherokee High School, running 16:09 at Holmdel. He is a graduate of Appalachian State, where he was one of the top distance runners of all time in a program with rich cross country history. Coach Halin also holds the school record in the 5000 meter at 14:19.

Joe works full time at PHH Mortgage, and they are flexible enough to allow him to take a break from work each day between 3 and 5 to run with the team. The fact that he is actually fast enough to run with our top runners, and his rich experience helps to give our team the experience to reach our goals.

Joe also got to meet Arthur Lydiard before the famous new Zealand coach passed away in 2004.

Mr. Bickel is transitioning from the software business to becoming a high school math teacher.  He runs every other day now to avoid injuries at his delicate old age…

He ran cross country and track in High School and at Bucknell University. He ran 11:40 in his first 2 mile in 10th grade, and improved to 9:39 by his senior year in high school. In college he was elected to the Bucknell University Athletic Hall of Fame, and is most proud of being part of the first Bucknell team to qualify for the NCAA Division 1 Championships and running a 29:07 in the 10,000 meters (4:40 per mile for over 6 miles - wow I have really gotten old and fat now).

His running and coaching philosophy comes from Coach Art Gulden.  Coach’s favorite saying was"the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack" - from Jack London.  Mr. Bickel has tried to bring that philosophy to the Moorestown Distance Team, and is committed to each and every runner that contributes to the team.

When not bugging Mr. Eagles or working he hangs with his wife Marlise, and two daughters – Allison (Freshman at Washington University in St. Louis) and Mollie (10th grader at MHS).
