Varsity QualificationsWith so many runners investing their best in the program, the coaches would like to clearly delineate the standards that will be used to determine who qualifies for a varsity letter this year. The standards look to reward those who put consistent effort into their individual running and the success of the team while performing at a superior level in relation to the runners in both the program and the region. Here are the considerations: Attendance: Successful running involves a consistent commitment to training each and everyday. Therefore, athletes under consideration for a varsity letter CANNOT have unexcused absences. Strong Team Spirit: Our running philosophy stresses team goals and team unity. Therefore, athletes under consideration for a varsity letter must display a strong team spirit by dedicating themselves to team goals and supporting their teammates. Qualifying for the Varsity Championship Squad: The top runners on the team – determined by race times and coaches input – constitute the Championship Squad and will represent Moorestown at the Divisional, County and Sectional and State Meets. Making this team earns a varsity letter. Racing Times: Due to the depth of the team and its’ quality relative to teams in the area, athletes failing to make the Championship Squad can still receive a varsity letter if they reach a specific personal racing goals, including:
Grade Level Consideration: Athletes who have shown dedication and commitment to the program through their senior year will be given strong consideration for a varsity position. All of these guidelines will help the coaches make fair and informed decisions about varsity letter recipients. Failure to meet any of the above standards CAN preclude an athlete from varsity consideration. However, the coaches reserve the right to consider other factors in addition to the standards as the situation merits. Feel free to contact one of the Coaches with questions or concerns as they arise. |
