This past week:
Garage Sale Success! - Thank you to the Rothman's for hosting this year's Garage Sale and to all of the parents who showed up to help out. We had a total of about $1,200 raised, and after our lunch and Rita's Run have a net of $1,072. It was a lot of fun, and enabled us to help fund our uniform program.
Hill Workout - We had a great hill workout this past Friday. The top guys went down to do 3 - 5 times the South Washington Hill behind Our Lady of Good Counsel. Friedman, Naylor and Ringwood had particularly strong performances on a very hot day. It was good to see Greenwood and Wilson step up to do the workout with this group. The rest of the team did repeat loops at Stokes Hill. Collier had an outstanding workout. It was great to see some of the sophomores like Wientraub and Robinson sticking to this group. The most impressive part of the day however was the very high level of commitment everyone showed. From the front of the pack to the back of the pack - everyone went above and beyond and encouraged each other to stick and work hard. The freshmen are really demonstrating a desire to put the work in to be very competitive.
Injuries - Keeping runners healthy is one of our primary objectives. Catching injuries early is key to that. Pulling a guy out for a couple of days, or getting them to do extra stretching and ice is much better than "running thru it". Runners are most vulnerable when going thru shifts in their training - new runners or shifting from all easy distance in the summer to harder workouts during the season. Remember to communicate with the coaches if you have aches and pains. And watch your mileage increases - keep conservative!

The coming week:
Tuesday - Cinnaminson Batch Meet - BCSL Batch meet #1 at Cinnaminson High School vs. Riverside, BCIT-Medford, and Cinnaminson. 2:15 bus departure from the "MA" Center. The meet starts at 3:45. Expect to be back around 6:00PM. For newcomers, the meet is scored individually against each team. The team score is determined by how many total points the top 5 individuals score, and the next two finishers can push the other team's 5th man back. The place is the score - so low team wins. For example, if Moorestown finishes 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7, 8th, 9th and 10th - that would be 27 points (just the top 5 score, but our 9th and 10th place guys push their 5th guy back), and if Cinnaminson scores 1, 2, 6, 9, and 12th that would be 30 points and Moorestown would win.
Friday - Psyche Party - at Wylie Naylor's house (209 Hickory Lane) at 6:00PM. The wolfpacks will be assigned food to bring this week at practice.
Saturday - Cherokee Challenge - This is the first big invitational meet. It is a 2 mile race, and broken up by class. So there are separate races for Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. It is a big race -with 200+ runners in each race - so it is very exciting. Learn more about it at the Cherokee web site -

Food and Drinks - Remember to bring food and drinks. You need to have a snack between the end of school and the time you race. You can not expect to race well if the last time you ate was a 10:45 lunch. Also, bring enough food and drinks to rehydrate and energize after your races so you recover faster and better!

Parents at Races.- We strongly encourage parents to come and cheer on the team for every meet. Some of the runners may discourage you from coming - but the coaching staff and the whole team really do want to see as many parents, friends and family come to meets as possible (tell them Coach Bickel told you to come if they are embarrassed!). The more positive encouragement we can give to everyone, the better. And feel free to introduce yourself to the coaches and ask questions.
Goals for the Week - This is our first opportunity to race and see what a 5K and 2 mile race really feels like. This is a time to establish a baseline for the rest of the season. It is a time to learn how to race. It is a time to experiment and see how hard you can push yourself. Remember our team principles - Work Hard, Learn, Have Fun and support your Team!
