2008 Moorestown Cross Country Weekly Update

This Past Week

Sectional Meet - We achieved our goal of qualifying for the State Meet.  But the competition has definitely stepped up over the past year.  We finished 4th, after very strong Ocean City (56) and Kingsway (60) teams and a rapidly improving Shawnee (81) and right in front of Highland (88 points to our 87).  Ringwood had issues with congestion and it really affected his running today.  Friedman had a nice race, especially in the middle section.  Matteson, Weintraub and Wolff all ran together and were in a nice pack.  Greenwood and Wilson both went out very well trying to make an impact as we had planned, which was great to see.

One of the things we will be doing this week with the underclassmen is getting together and seeing how we should respond as a team for next year.  It is clear that other teams are now working harder than we do.  After seeing how the top teams train and focus in "The Long Green Mile" movie, it is time to ask ourselves where we want to be as a team.

This Coming Week

State Meet - Saturday 1:45 - Group 3 is one of the toughest, if not the toughest, group in the state.  So we will have our hands full.  Our goals will be to place in the Top 25 Team Times and will be to improve from our positioning against the other South Jersey teams - so we will need improved performances from every one of our runners.  West Windsor North had an absolutely dominating race in Central with a 16:13 average time at Thompson Park.  Other teams to watch are Holmdel, Morris Hills, Mendham and Millburn.  This will also be the last Cross Country race for MXC for our Seniors - Ringwood, Friedman, Matteson, Wolff and Wilson.  They should feel proud of their contributions to the program and should aim to enjoy this final race at the historic Holmdel Park.

If you can make it, this is a fun race to watch with all of the State's top runners there.  It will be fun to see if runners like Brett Johnson and Chelsea Ley may someday become elite runners like Erin Donahue in this last Olympics.

Banquet - November 19, 6PM at the Middle School Cafeteria (note the new location).  Kira Fauvell 273-5899 and Nancy Balch 914-9988 are coordinating this.  If you can help, please contact them at kkfauvell@comcast.net and balchslugz@comcast.net.  All runners and parents should plan on attending, and other family members are welcome.  We get good food, so we will collect probably $10 per person.

Turkey Trot - Thanksgiving Morning.  We will start advertising this week for the Turkey Trot.  We need lots of volunteers to help with food and course watching and starting line and finish line.  If you can help, please contact Judy Greenwood at judygreenwoodcb@msn.com or 235-3890.

MXC MagnetMXC Magnets - We now have a new batch avaiulable for $5.  We will have them at the Banquet, and the store also has them (all money goes to the team).
